Sapporo Agricultural College Brand
This brand takes its name from Sapporo Agricultural College, an institution of higher education founded in the early Meiji era (1868–1912) and the predecessor of today’s Hokkaido University. The college laid the foundation for dairy farming in Hokkaido. Inspired by this heritage, we draw on the richness of Hokkaido’s dairy products and devote the finest ingredients and utmost care to crafting confections of exceptional taste.
Origin of the Agricultural College Brand Name
This brand takes its name from Sapporo Agricultural College, a real educational institution from Hokkaido’s pioneering days and the predecessor of today’s Hokkaido University. The college opened in 1876, with three professors invited from the United States, including Dr. William Smith Clark, who joined other faculty to teach Western knowledge and technology. Through their instruction, the college laid the foundation for Hokkaido’s agriculture and produced many outstanding individuals. The frontier spirit that defined the school’s founding ethos continues to be passed down through generations of students to this day. The brand, which bears the college’s name, is officially recognized by Hokkaido University.
A portion of sales proceeds from Sapporo Agricultural College products is used to support the university’s educational activities, an initiative that has continued since the brand’s launch in 2005.
